Police found Mary Lou Peck 19 and Jennie Emery 17 chained to a bed in a Butte home at 1039 W Granite. Their father Milton Emery 47 claimed the restraints were to keep the sisters from running off, while the mother Marion Emery 41 held the keys. Welfare workers, a hospital staff, and county attorney planned charges of inhuman treatment.

Two Forest Fires Erupt Near Butte
Two small forest fires erupted near Butte on Tuesday, likely lightning caused. Eleven men battled a ridge fire between German and Norton gulches about 50 miles south of Gregson with three remaining overnight. A second fire north of Butte drew a three man crew from Boulder. Lookouts spotted both blazes, with the Gregson fire first reported by a Milwaukee Road speeder patrol.
