Police in Buenos Aires fired tear gas into a crowd of about 400 in Plaza de Mayo after warning protesters to disperse. Officials said they foiled a plot to assassinate President Juan D. Peron and overthrow the government with armed attacks on utilities and institutions.
Geneva reports that genetics experts warned hereditary damage from radiation could threaten future generations as atomic use expands. Dr Gunnar Randers said fears are unfounded technically, but safeguards are essential and easily implemented. Prof Tage Kemp warned radiation changes hereditary processes and could rise with higher doses, risking a race of hereditary deficiencies. T. C. Carter urged a large international study to assess the issue comprehensively.
Thousands of Indian nationalists entered Portuguese held Goa Damao and Diu at several points. Portuguese guards killed 20 marchers and wounded about 44 with many detained. G. A brown haired man robbed Union National Bank of Denver Monday afternoon without displaying a weapon. Miss Mary Goeke, 26, teller, described the suspect as 5 feet 9 inches, about 180 pounds, wearing a gray coat, white shirt, gray trousers, gold rimmed sunglasses and a gray dress hat. He warned, Fill it up Keep smiling, then left with an unspecified sum. FBI and police questioned a man matching the description but released him. The incident mirrors a prior $10,795 Denver City National Bank robbery with some similarities but enough variance to suggest different offenders. City National Bank lies two blocks from Union National.
Great Falls police investigated a Sunday night break-in at Victory Market located fifty yards from the police station. Thieves took about $75 in cash plus staples and meats, exiting through the store’s back door just 25 yards from the station.
