Mechanics End 17 Day Western Strike Resume Service
Western Air lines mechanics ended a 17 day walkout after accepting a three year contract raising wages from 4.21 to 5.60 an hour with fully paid medical, dental, eye care and drugs. About 6,000 workers were laid off and the airline canceled an $85 million aircraft purchase. The company expects operations to resume in seven days amid a dispute over subcontracted maintenance.

Western Airlines will not fully restore service at Butte Airport until Monday. Manager Victor Heinitz said partial service would run Saturday and Sunday with southbound flights to Idaho Falls Pocatello Salt Lake City Ontario and San Diego.
