Mechanics End 17 Day Western Strike Resume Service

Western Air lines mechanics ended a 17 day walkout after accepting a three year contract raising wages from 4.21 to 5.60 an hour with fully paid medical, dental, eye care and drugs. About 6,000 workers were laid off and the airline canceled an $85 million aircraft purchase. The company expects operations to resume in seven days amid a dispute over subcontracted maintenance.

Western Airlines to restore full Butte service by Monday

Western Airlines will not fully restore service at Butte Airport until Monday. Manager Victor Heinitz said partial service would run Saturday and Sunday with southbound flights to Idaho Falls Pocatello Salt Lake City Ontario and San Diego. Flight 24 from Los Angeles arrives Saturday at 7 32 p.m. and departs at 7 50 p.m. A second southbound flight is slated for Sunday morning.

Second annual Butte Vigilante Junior Rodeo opens Sunday

The event kicks off at 1 30 p m Sunday at the Butte Rodeo Grounds with boys and girls ages eight through eighteen competing. Other regional highlights include Little League All stars games at Northwest Park in Anaconda and multiple county fairs and rodeos across Montana through next week.

Butte Zoning Plan Out for Public Study Across County

A brochure detailing proposed zoning regulations for Butte, Walkerville, and the Silver Bow County metro area is available free through Leo Belanger. The plan, developed with Howard Needles, Tammen and Bergendorf, outlines seven zoning districts and rules on building height, lot size, yard setbacks, and uses. Public hearings will start in about two weeks before the planning boards and councils review and possibly modify the proposal.

Northside Opens Springboard Kindergarten For 300 Children

Vincent Barry Named School Administrator in Butte

John Whelan announced Vincent Barry as assistant superintendent of schools at a salary of 17 500. Barry, 33, longtime Butte resident, has a BA in zoology from the University of Montana 1957 and an MA from Western Montana College. He is pursuing a doctorate in educational administration at UM Missoula, plans to finish 1969 70, and has taught science for 10 years at East Junior High plus operated two businesses.
