Jack Legs Diamond, labeled a top gangster, received four years in the Atlanta federal penitentiary and an $11,000 fine for conspiracy and possession of a still. Paul Quattrochi drew two years and a $5,000 fine. both appealed and were granted bail. The judge hinted at renewed trial under the Jones law.
Colorado Springs August 12. Sheriff Jackson announced that Glenda King 18 and two other suspects remained jailed as investigators weigh three versions of the July 20 murder of Lewis J. Palmer. King has alternated statements implicating Floyd Spears and Andrew Petricko while Spears maintains a strong alibi.

Police work on the torch murder case of two young couples continues in Ann Arbor Michigan as fresh crews hunt for leads. Nightfall brings no solution while two suspects remain in custody. A purse identified as Vivian Golds is found and a witness places four youths with a third man shortly before the incident.
Payments on Butte s new license ordinance are due Thursday August 20. The city clerk P J O Neill said crews must collect fees from 116 business types to fund city finances. Mayor Archie McTaggart defended the plan amid petitions and warned against circulating inflated figures, noting an election on the measure could cost 6000 to 8000 dollars.

Chicago Aug 12 Captain Frank Hawks shaved 13 minutes from the old record flying from New York to Chicago in four hours and four minutes en route to Hot Springs where he will be named an honorary Indian chief. He plans a return attempt on the Chicago New York speed record.

Kalispell resident Walter Podratz, an accomplished aviator with 400 parachute jumps, prevented Miss Evelee Powers from a 2400 foot plunge during an airshow by grabbing her jacket as she fainted on the plane wing. He guided a safe three point landing and medical aid was summoned. Powers recovered. Podratz hailed as skilled and poised.
The estate of the late Al G. Barnes, former circus owner once believed worth about a million dollars, apparently will not exceed five thousand dollars, disclosed today as his widow filed a petition for letters of administration.

In Butte two prominent figures W Rae and James T Finlen became grandfathers yesterday. Jim Finlen III, son of James T Finlen Jr., arrived at St James hospital weighing eight pounds. Mrs Finlen, formerly Ruth Rae, is a former local school teacher. Both mother and baby are reported to be doing well.
Mrs. Mary E. Hellinger, 75, longtime Gallatin county officer and past Women's Relief Corps leader, died today in Livingston after seven weeks of special care. Born in Canada November 3, 1855, she crossed the plains as a child and lived near Bozeman before moving to East Beall street. She was married in 1876 to Henry Heilinger. one daughter survives. Services and burial scheduled in Bozeman.
Professor Oscar A. Dingman of the Montana School of Mines recounted a river gold expedition on the Missouri. Appointed by Francis A. Thomson to test river bars, Dingman and a small group built two flat boats and began the voyage from Havre to Fort Benton, departing July 25 for a month‑plus trip in search of placer gold.
