Silver Bow Welfare Funds Short Even Without Strike

Two New Forest Fires Reported Near Butte Area
Two new forest fires in the Deer Lodge National Forest were reported to the Butte office. One near Lowland Creek six miles north of Butte burned about an acre in slash. a 16 member Forest Service crew and a borate drop fought it. The second spot fire on Fish Creek 15 miles south of Butte was controlled after FBI agent Fred Bassett spotted it and firefighters arrived. A pending Ross Fork fire southwest of Philipsburg had six on scene and ten smokejumpers were sent back to Missoula after it was deemed under control.
