Jailbreak Shocks Butte with Five Escapees
Five men escaped from Silver Bow County jail in Butte early Thursday, in the city’s biggest break. The group included a local man, a man jailed for a bad check, and three federal prisoners. ten inmates stayed. Sheriff Darling and Undersheriff Harper found the breach at about 7:30 a.m. The fugitives were identified as Lee Dale Burns, Robert Lewis Williams, Antone Pierre La Moose, Lewis F. Johnson, and Stanley Popek. The FBI joined the investigation after noting the federal offense.

Former Montana Justice Ralph Anderson Dies at 74
Helena attorney and former Montana Supreme Court Justice Ralph Anderson died in a Helena hospital. He served on the Montana Supreme Court from 1932 to 1938 and had many opinions cited in the American Law Reports. He graduated from University of Colorado Law School in 1911 and practiced in Lewistown before moving to Helena. Funeral services were pending. He received a 50 year Montana Bar pin in July.

Involuntary Manslaughter Charged After Highway Collision
Felix A. Fisher, 22, faces involuntary manslaughter charges in the deaths of two Martinez children, 11 and 5, in a Wednesday evening crash on U.S. 93 seven miles south of Hamilton. Fisher was arraigned, held on 5000 bond, and bound over to district court. Elderly Chinook Man Killed In Two Car Crash
Blaine County Coroner says 70 year old Paul Miller of Chinook died in a two car crash on U S 2 three miles west of Chinook. Passenger Marlene Chapman 15 and driver Ronald Brinkman 19 were hospitalized with Chapman severely hurt. Coroner planned an inquest after further investigation. The 1962 traffic toll rose to 140 on this date.
