The Senate investigative committee ordered full hearings on Sen. McCarthy starting August 30. The six member panel considers 46 charges, with potential consolidation ahead of proceedings. McCarthy or his attorney will cross-examine witnesses under federal court like rules.

The city council adopted a 1 499 695 30 budget the largest in Butte’s 75 years a rise of 126 560 37 over 1953 54. The plan raises salaries for police and firemen and increases uniform allowances while reducing the tax levy to 40 58 mills.
