Forest Fire Near Philipsburg Advances Fast
Fifty men from Missoula and Philipsburg battled a new forest fire in the Willow Creek area 16 miles NW of Philipsburg. Starting from an unknown cause last night, the blaze consumed 20 acres of lodgepole pine and fir as low humidity and a steady breeze aided its spread. Forest Service officer H. G. Peterson and Ranger Bruns directed the effort, with John Clack en route to assist in corralling the fire. A valuable stand of yellow pine was reported endangered.
