In Santiago amid two years of beef rationing, Chilean homemakers turn to horsemeat and park pigeons as affordable options while markets display long lines for pork and lamb. Prices range from 37 to 50 cents a pound for horsemeat and a live chicken costs about a dollar.
A teenage girl who vanished from a western Montana campground was located near Missoula. A man, Gene, was arrested on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile as the investigation continued.
Arab gunmen tossed grenades and fired into a crowded Athens International Airport lounge killing three and wounding more than 50. Two hostages were held for two hours before surrender. The attackers identified themselves as Zeced Mohammed and Palaat Hussam. An El Al flight had departed minutes earlier.
Sen. Herman E. Talmadge declares no evidence justifies impeachment of President Nixon and public support is unlikely without tape recordings. He urges releasing tapes and a public examination. The Watergate committee subpoenas tapes and plans to force production as hearings near conclusion.
Skylab astronauts Alan Bean Owen Garriott and Jack Lousma rehearse a 3% hour spacewalk to unfurl a large sun shade on the orbiting lab. They will form two 55 foot poles and attach a V shaped mast to protect the ship from sun heat while NOAA plans Gulf of Mexico fish data.

Authorities study causes of the eight day outbreak described as the most destructive in U S history with questions about drug pushers and parole policies. Governor Hall maintains no paroles for drug pushers and cites overcrowding as a factor.
In Gainesville Florida a group of Vietnam Veterans Against the War faces trial for a Miami Beach convention raid plot using firearms and crossbows. Hundreds gathered at UF for rallies led by Tom Hayden and Anthony Russo amid lingering antiwar disillusionment and calls it post Viet Nam syndrome.
