Anaconda Mill Allotted Federal Power
The Bonneville Power Administration allocated federal power to four Pacific Northwest industries including the Anaconda steel mill in Montana and two aluminum plants in Washington. Webb & Knapp’s Corportation steel mill at Anaconda will receive 44 000 average kilowatts firm power and 52 000 average kilowatts total power plus capacity to produce about 35 000 tons of steel annually. United Pacific Aluminum near Longview and Aluminum Incorporated at The Dalles receive substantial firm and secondary kilowatt allocations for new potlines. Crown Zellerbach in Port Townsend gets limited power for pulp facility modifications. The action, announced by BPA administrator William A. Pearl, stems from expanded private hydroelectric generation and will raise EPA revenues by about 60 million dollars yearly, pending major grid additions appropriations.
