President Nixon met hundreds of thousands of cheering Romanians at Otopeni Airport in Bucharest and declared America’s willingness to live in peace with the Communist world amid milestone reception during his visit.
In Bucharest thousands line streets near Arch of Triumph as President Nixon rides a mile from a 12 mile motorcade through a sea of American and Romanian flags. The crowd roars Welcome as Nixon and Ceausescu praise peaceful coexistence amid Cold War tensions.
More than 300 attended the dedication ceremonies as the Butte East Interchange portion of the interstate program and the new Montana State Highway Building were officially opened. Lt. Gov. Tom Judge unlocked the doors, with Master of Ceremonies G R Cooney and Mayor Mike Micone in attendance.
Diversified Realty owner of two burned buildings seeks to create a landscaped park in downtown Butte. Demolition of Al’s Photo Shop and the Board of Trade on Main Street is set for the coming week. The fate of three vacant Broadway properties remains unclear as owners live elsewhere.

A twin engine plane flying from Butte to Rapid City crashes five miles east of Livingston. Jules J. Mallon 55 pilot Esther 48 and son David 22 from Des Moines were killed. The crash occurred about 1 30 p m. Cause unknown. NTSB investigator to arrive in Helena to probe.
Sgt. Daniel J. Casey of Anaconda was killed in action in Vietnam on July 28 while his Green Beret unit fought Viet Cong forces. A 1951 relocate from Anaconda to Seattle preceded the service, and he is survived by his parents, Kenneth L. and the Casey family, plus grandparents and extended relatives in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and California.
