President Eisenhower signed extending the GI home loan guarantee program until July 25 1958 and allowing applications to be filed through that date for later processing. The VA also said thousands of WWII and Korea veterans may reinstate 5 year term insurance if they missed payments, under the Survivors Benefit Act.
New York Governor Averell Harriman urged Montana's 16 presidential delegate votes to back his bid in a telegram to Atty. Gen. Arnold Olsen. Olsen plans to discuss nominees in Chicago on Aug. 12 as Montana's delegation remains split 7½ for Stevenson and 4 for Harriman with 4% uncommitted. Representative Lee Metcalf said he would withhold his half vote until the Chicago convention and be one of the first to decide.
Washington The Agriculture Dept Thursday estimated U S production of shorn wool this year at 231,754,000 pounds, about 1 percent below last year and roughly 5 percent under the 10 year average.

Bids for Clark Park building opened by the Butte City Council were sent to a committee with a note the plan may be abandoned for joint work at the Civic Center. The plan envisions a new all purpose facilities cluster and a joint meeting with county officials was proposed.

Secretary Weeks said the settlement of the nationwide steel strike will bring a fresh bounce for business with new records for production and employment. He warned inflation could rise if the trend continues and noted July employment would top June’s record.
The Montana Water Conservation Board endorsed the Bureau of Reclamation Plan 2 for full development of the Missouri River headwaters in the Three Forks area. The plan uses water from the Gallatin Madison and Jefferson to irrigate 117 000 acres of new land and supply 100 000 additional acres.
