Utilities led a modest rally on the NYSE with 1,026,560 shares traded. The AP average rose 0.4 to 50.3, utilities up 0.8 to a 1939 high 40.6, amid a political trigger in Congress affecting lending and government competition. Western Union, Public Service of New Jersey, Brooklyn Union Gas hit 1939 tops. American Can, Du Pont, J C Penney, Celanese, Burlington Mills also advanced.

Young Women's Missionary society of Mountain View church plans a Columbia Gardens picnic supper at 4 p.m. today with members supplying their own supper. San Francisco visitors Mrs Joan Figene Mrs Emma Martin and Alameda residents Mr and Mrs John Schutty have returned home after visiting the Zéeric home on Spruce Street. Sergeant Nick F Hertges leading the Butte Army recruiting trip is noted.

Wool futures drift with mixed trades in New York

In New York on August 2 futures for wool tops were quiet and irregular as Boston traders absorbed sales with focus on December and March deliveries. Antwerp held steady while Roubaix rose 10 centimes. Futures closed two points higher to two lower with October at 83.7, December 62.25, and March 81.36. spot standard tops at 875. Manchuria’s record wheat crop is noted as causing supply concerns.

Democrats to Meet for Picnic Plans at Liberty Hall

South Side Democrats will meet at a creek corner in Liberty hall on Front street to hear committee reports on plans for the annual picnic to be held August 20 at Nine Mile Inn. All members urged to attend tonight, per club president Dr Alderman.

Woman to Enter Poultry in Show at Fair

Mrs. Annie Connelly, a nationally publicized exhibitor from Butte, plans to enter 34 of her best birds in the Northern Montana fair at Great Falls, with travel starting Sunday. The poultry show opens Monday and concludes Saturday before birds proceed to the Midland Empire fair in Billings. Last year her birds captured a large share of prizes at the Northern Montana show as they compete in other West-wide contests ahead of winter. She did not enter the World's poultry Congress in Cleveland.

Anaconda woman claims dog has been stray all winter

After more than six months apart, Mrs. B. La. Holloran of Anaconda says she now cares for the pet. In a Montana Standard letter she reports investigating the dog's story in Smelter City and finds it has been a stray all winter. An advertisement in the Standard led her to believe the dog’s owner may be Putte resident. inquiries can write to Box 1495, Anaconda.

Children of City to Attend Columbia Gardens Outing

Youngsters fourteen and under will be guests of Anaconda Copper Mining at Columbia Gardens for the ninth Children’s Day outing. Free transport starts from the end of the big lines at 9 30 and from city center at 10. Last return trip leaves at 4 35. The playgrounds are in excellent condition and preparations are made for a large crowd.

Salable cattle across regions include 8,500 calves 1,000. yearlings and light steers steady. weighty steers weak. Yearling and stocker prices vary. hogs salable 9,000 with top around 6.80. sheep 1,500 with lambs strong. Omaha Denver and St Paul markets show steady to strong cattle and fluctuating hog and sheep prices.

New York metal markets report copper steady at 63.7 cents spot with export at 10,454710.50. Lead remains near 4.97 to 5 cents in spot and at East St. Louis 4.60 cents. Aluminum and other metals including zinc and silver show no change in the latest pricing.

Wheat futures rise on heat, export demand boosts market

Chicago August 2 Wheat futures climbed amid firmer tone and bullish signals from Liverpool and Canadian crop deterioration. Traders noted higher open and close, with September at 65% to 65 1/4 cents and December around 66 1/2 cents. corn and oats rose modestly while soybeans gained. Export demand and foreign buying supported prices, including Manitoba sales and a cargo to the United Kingdom.

Minneapolis Grain Prices and Wheat Receipts Report
