Wanderer Lupton Faces 90 Day Jail Option In Butte

H Lupton from Wyoming spent a day at large in Butte and part of a city jail. Police Judge J Winston offered 90 days in jail or leaving Butte within one hour. Lupton pleaded guilty to vagrancy for panhandling with testimony naming Assistant Police Chiefs O Leary Del LaBreche and Maurice Mutcahy as involved officers.

Forest Fire Near Butte Brought Under Control

Firefighters battled an 8 to 9 acre blaze near Butte along the Northern Pacific tracks aided by air sorties. About 53 men worked the line as TBM retardant planes dropped 3,000 gallons. no wind aided the effort amid 90 degree heat and rough terrain.

Father and Son Feud Ends in Fatal Shooting

In Meagher County Montana a 76 year old father George Roberson shot his son John Pershing Roberson 36 at the family ranch near Sixteen. The elder said the son advanced with papers during a dispute over sale terms, a single .22 rifle shot ending the feud. An inquest is planned for Friday.

An expert testifying for opponents to Montana Power Co. called the Great Falls Gas rate proposal unjust and discriminatory in price and form.
