New York undertakes a citywide patrol as 16 police squadrons armed with 12 gauge shotguns and orders to shoot first above the waist begin night duty to curb murder gangs. The action follows reports of elevated gang violence and aims to restore order across the city.
Payment of 100000 on the 299000 bond issue of School District No. 1 of Silver Bow county was made to Kountz Brothers New ark bankers Paul A Rooney, announced by the treasurer. It is the first large payment on the 299683 funding bond issue floated years ago, the treasurer said.
Dell F. Harbaugh is dead in Chicago as his wife awaits murder charges. The pair separated but reconciled by a pact termed The Road to Happiness. A disputed song supposedly forbade other tunes.

Eagle River Wisconsin report says George W E Jiggs Perry Milwaukee serial bigamist was found guilty of first degree murder in the slaying of Cora Belle Hackett of Chicago. The jury sentenced him to life imprisonment immediately.
Berlin clashes with communists as demonstrations spread across the city. Police wounded several rioters, one National Socialist and at least one steel helmet member reported killed in Hamburg. A police officer was seriously wounded in Berlin during the worst disorder.
Detroit August 1. All available prohibition agents in the district were sent to Wyandotte to aid in a search for men who kidnapped and beat federal agents Henry Schwartz and G A Wetzel after an attempted brewery raid. The officers were found with weapons missing clothing torn and faces battered. They reported being overpowered driven to a country road and warned not to report the attack.
Warren F. E. McLean a 61 year old Denver barber died when an old fashioned folding bed trapped him and his wife as they listened to a radio program. Mrs McLean was freed after screams drew neighbors and later imprisoned for 20 minutes. He died from a fractured skull.

A stenographer for Montgomery Ward at the city post office was robbed yesterday morning. A man snatched a purse containing about 160 dollars, splitting 127.50 in one envelope and 30 in another as she passed through the post office door. Police describe the robbery as one of the boldest in years.
