Ralph Olsen was awarded a three year school transportation contract by School District No. 1 trustees for 21 564 per year. The deal supports the potential revival of local transit in Butte though no timetable for service was given. The district budget totals 31 431.50 for transportation.
Vice President Nixon prepared a televised address to the Soviet people to respond to charges that the United States causes world tension. He will speak at 8 pm, with a translation provided, and will discuss his impressions of the Soviet economy and people after a 5,000 mile tour.
Three teenage girls were injured and a fourth escaped injury when a 1939 model car rolled on its side after hitting a boulder near the Statton sawmill on Fish Creek, Highlands south of Butte. Jeanie Statton 15 and Maryn Schamp 17 were admitted for injuries. Gloria Statton 17 received stitches. Alice Statton 9 was not injured.
A Loma teenager, Billy Dean LeFurgey, 15, was fatally injured when a county tractor with a mower attached tipped on a hillside after the mower jammed. He was found by harvesters, rushed to Fort Benton hospital, and died about 20 minutes later.
Idaho Falls AP reports a second death from botulism linked to spoiled home canned beets. Wanda Nelson, 15, died Friday as four relatives remain seriously ill and additional anti-toxin arrives. Her grandfather died Thursday and Kenneth Nelson, 45, in Kansas City, is in a coma.

Thomas of the U S Geological Survey warned against heavy restrictions and noted the links between ground and surface water while advocating enabling legislation for public water districts.
Nine US state governors returning from the Soviet Union urged President Eisenhower and Premier Khrushchev to visit each other to promote peace. Conferees approved a 39.23 billion defense bill funding 170 to 200 Atlas missiles under test at Cape Canaveral. The measure includes a national guard manpower mandate, with Marine Corps and Army reserve strength increases and a 73 million dollar boost for each, totaling 400,000 guard personnel and 300,000 reserve.

Mrs Harriet Jessie Attfield aged 97 of 800 West Daly Walkerville died Friday in a local hospital after a long life in the community She was born January 5 1862 in Hawkley Hampshire England married Edwin Attfield in London and later moved to the United States Surviving relatives include daughter Mrs Gertrude Berryman of Butte sons and daughters in law Ralph and Attfield and Robert Attfield all of Butte grandchildren and great grandchildren and many relatives in England The remains are in Richards Funeral Home.
The Board of County Commissioners opened one bid for hospital drapery materials totaling 6770 from Christie Furniture Mart of Butte. Budgeted amount was 8500. bid under advisement with right to reject all bids. Decision on office equipment bids remains pending as part of hospital contract letting.

John Manson Owens III, 16, from Savannah Georgia, survived six days in the Grand Canyon after companions Rev. Eugene Gavigan 30 and Walter Mahany Jr. 16 died. He rode a rope ladder to a helicopter from a sandbar on the Colorado River and was hospitalized for observation.
