Painter Roat Feared Dead After Big Hole River Plunge
Edgar L. Roat, 50, of 818 West Quartz street, a Butte painter, vanished when his car plunged from a Dewey highway into the Big Hole River. Searchers scoured the swift waters from Friday afternoon into Saturday night, but no trace was found. The car, a new 1937 model, is believed to have gone over the bank Friday night after leaving his summer home at Dewey. Relatives and friends aided the search as Roat’s daughter described the fall as a "horrible cliff."
