A British French communiqué reports German patrols repulsed north of Steinkjer as Namsos faces four bombing raids. Casualties include 11 French dead and 27 wounded in Namsos with streets littered by unexploded bombs and incendiaries.
Secretary Hull has authorized a wholesale renegotiation of the United States commercial treaties. Early surveys show most pacts are antiquated or museum pieces, some dating to 1815 1826 1837 1854 1863 1848 1852. Several major nations lack any treaty and Italy has only an executive agreement.
Allied Norwegian and German forces clash on five fronts in central Norway with Trondheim as the strategic aim. German spearheads push north and south along rail lines from Dombas toward Storen and Andalsnes while British and Norwegian units defend key positions near Hjerkinn and Narvik remains uncertain.
Representative Rayburn and Lyndon B. Johnson propose a harmony plan in Texas to guide the delegation at the Democratic national convention. They seek to have the Texas delegation vote for Garner for President while Garner factions back the administration record and avoid a stop-Roosevelt campaign. The telegrams urge unity to prevent fracturing the party before November.
Two eleven year old boys were jailed in the county juvenile department after loot valued at about 250 dollars was found on the Moxom cafe site in Butte. The cache included tools sun glasses silverware and office items from local buildings and a church.
The Montana School of Mines announces a senior trip by 43 seniors led by Dr. E. Perry. They will depart next Tuesday for a multi state tour visiting Denver Colorado, the Colorado School of Mines, Carr Porcelain works and other industrial centers before returning May 29. They will see the Colorado capitol, Carr Porcelain works, Carlsbad Caverns, Bisbee Arizona mines, and Phoenix facilities before continuing home.

Irvin Bownds a 32 year old bank cashier was found dead in the looted vault of a Crosby County bank. He had been knifed in the throat and felled by a head blow. Authorities say between 2000 and 3000 dollars were missing and no one saw anyone leave after Bownds returned from lunch.
The Montana Supreme Court recommended observing citizenship day during Constitution Week in September. It named the 17 district judges as chairmen and appointed co chairmen where districts have two judges. A Bar association committee urged designation last December 18, calling the event desirable and necessary for public instruction in government and citizen duties.
Miss Rose Pogliano of Twin Bridges will be crowned May queen Sunday afternoon during the annual procession at the St James hospital school of nursing. The event includes the crowning of a Mary statue, short addresses, singing, and benediction. Attendants from each class will precede the flower girls Carol McGee and Harriet Sullivan. The procession forms at 4 p.m. in front of Our Lady’s statue on the Nurses' home first floor.
