Viet Guerrilla Attacks Kill U S Soldier in Highlands

In South Viet Nam, communist guerrillas killed a U S Army master sergeant and 40 Vietnamese troops in a battle 320 miles north of Saigon. Two other soldiers wounded and 57 missing. The assault followed a week of guerrilla successes near Kontum and Da Nang, with an American helicopter downed and one pilot wounded.

Twisters Strike Texas Nebraska and Kansas Injuring Dozens

United Press International reports multiple tornadoes across Texas Nebraska and Kansas causing extensive damage. Fort Worth suffered 1 million plus in property loss with seven hospitalized. Auburn Nebraska saw a mother and eight children dumped from a car with one child dying later. Other towns including Mineola Montrose and Big Springs also reported heavy rain hail and snow.

Bank burglars steal 1.60 at Calhan Farmers State Bank

Burglaries at Calhan Colorado Farmers State Bank over the weekend saw intruders drill through the roof and attempt to pry into a vault. They fled with 1.60 as the FBI opened an investigation, the bank president A L Pieper said.

East of divide expect mostly cloudy skies with a few showers. west of divide partly cloudy with Tuesday’s variable clouds and some showers. Maximums cover 12 hours and minimums 18 hours with 24 hour precipitation ending 5 p.m. Sunday.

Strike Keeps Victor Plant Closed

Butte laborers union 163 and Victor Chemical Division of Stauffer Chemical Co remain in a stalemate with no new talks since Saturday. About 140 workers, plus salaried staff, face a shutdown at the Silver Bow plant west of Butte as wages and other issues divide the sides. Maidan Rock phosphate mine workers, 70 strong, unaffected. The goal is an eight cent hourly raise. company offers seven cents.

Seven Die In Montana Weekend Highway Toll

A rash of Montana highway crashes over the weekend killed seven people, with a tragic crash just south of the Canadian border near Glasgow claiming four victims. Victims include Fred August Roeder 59 Anaconda Airman J C Frank Herr 20 Shirley Ann Beck 18 Donna Lindsey 16 and Mrs Margaret Henton 57. Also died were Wallace Irgens 47 Helena and Richard Johnson 17 Sidney from injuries April 20.

Ray Sullivan Car Dealer Dies in Butte

Butte native Daniel R. Sullivan died Sunday in a local hospital. He owned Car X Change for two years and was a WWII Army sergeant. Survived by wife Eva son Gordon daughter Raelene sisters Nora Sullivan predeceased two weeks earlier. Funeral services at Duggan Merrill Mortuary.

Hardin Woman Nearing 104 Celebrates Birthday

Mrs. H M Roberts, born April 30 1859 in Adair County Kentucky, marked her 104th birthday two days early so churchgoers could visit after services. She moved from Kentucky to Sheridan Wyoming in 1903 and to Hardin in 1953. Her closest relative is daughter Mrs Gladys Rhinehart of Billings.

Morse ends Soviet visit with Paris trip

David A. Morse of the International Labor Organization concluded a two week Soviet Union visit and left Moscow on Sunday for Paris after being hosted by the Soviet government.

Three Forks Teacher Killed in Auto Crash

Mrs. Marga ret R. Henton 57 of Three Forks, a sixth grade teacher at Three Forks elementary and former Winnett educator, died in a Saturday car crash. Survived by son John of Three Forks, brothers Joseph and Robert Reid, sister Mrs. Josephine Musgrove, and mother Mrs. Matilda Reid, all of Rosebud. husband Samuel L. Henton predeceased. Fred Roeder Dies In One Car Wreck Near Jackson

Anaconda Reduction Works superintendent Fred Roeder aged 59 was killed Sunday afternoon when his camper pickup crashed one mile north of Jackson on Montana Secondary. State Patrol officials said he died instantly after being pinned beneath the wreckage at about 2 30.

Castro and Khrushchev greet in Moscow on warm, official visit

Fidel Castro arrived in Moscow to a kiss and bear hug from Nikita Khrushchev. The leaders rode a 12 mile car procession past cheering crowds to Red Square for a 24 gun salute. They emphasized Soviet Cuban aid and solidarity while avoiding talk of the Cuban rocket withdrawal.

Dillon Barber Fred Eudaily Dies at 66

Fredrick Archer Eudaily, a Dillon barber and World War I veteran, died early Sunday at 66. Born March 11, 1897 in Blackwell Oklahoma, he moved to Montana in 1916 and owned a shop in the Andrus Hotel until 1950, later continuing to work there. He married Josephine Darlington in 1941. Surviving: wife, son Daniel at Montana State College, daughter Karen Ann in Dillon, brother Charles of Yakima, sisters Luella Johnson and Mrs. Harry Gearhard, plus nephews and nieces. Funeral Thursday at Brundage Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Flowers omitted. memorials to heart fund or charities.
