A brief dispatch notes Poland and Britain maintaining calm amid denunciations of the non aggression pact. Navy cooperation remains steady and no warlike actions disturb English waters as tensions surface.
Adolf Hitler scrapped his naval treaty with Britain and his non-aggression pact with Poland and issued a defiant reply to President Roosevelt's peace proposals. He refused guarantees for 31 nations but offered non-aggression assurances if states requested them, and asserted Germany would regain what it lost in World War I, citing Alsace Lorraine.
David J. Genardini, 36, a Montana Power groundman, died after contact with a charged wire four miles south of Ennis while stringing a new line near the Maynard ranch. An inhalator was flown from Butte for his aid. He leaves a wife and young son. funeral in Anaconda.
Butte finance committee members met at the Chamber of Commerce to discuss Treasure State Jubilee plans and adjourned after a lengthy session with J. H. Rowe as chairman. Tomorrow morning Harry Walters is set to present updates.
Three Anaconda residents were killed and two others badly injured in a two-car crash on the Lakes highway four miles west of Anaconda shortly after 2 am. The dead were Michael Domitrovich 30 Elmer W Quick 29 and Austin McGinty 22. The injured Joseph Cannon 27 in critical condition and Virginia Jones 27 are at St Ann hospital. Quick, a service station lessee, died after escaping injury earlier when his tank truck left the road. A fifth victim, a girl, was reported improving.
Washington officials reacted to Adolf Hitler's address with gloom saying it offered little reassurance for those seeking peace. Many called his tone sinister defiant and blustering while noting his guarantees to protect neighbors depended on proposals from other nations.

The Ways and Means Committee approved an amendment delaying the 1940 tax increase for old age pensions. The change would save employers and workers about 825 million dollars. If enacted, the 1 percent rate would not rise in 1940 and would stay at 1 percent until 1943 when it would jump to 2 percent.
St Patrick boys from the west side opened with a strong lead in the twenty-ninth annual public and parochial grade school meet in Butte. They scored 26 points as Ramsay trailed with 14 percent, Emerson 14, Garfield 12 percent, and St Joseph 11. Fred Calcaterra of Ramsay set the only meet record in the 100-yard dash heats. The conference created a new committee to re assign bishops to fit the unified church’s provincial pattern.
Carnegie Hero Fund commission honors 14 bronze medalists for valor during the September New England hurricane and floods. William P. McGrath 30 and J. Gilbert Finning 40 battled flood waters at East River and Long Island. both drowned. McGrath’s mother Elizabeth F. McGrath of the Bronx receives bronze and $500.
Miss Dorothy Rochon of Anaconda won the statewide extemporaneous speaking contest during Montana State College high school week events. She defeated finalists led by Charles Root of Butte and James Mitchell of Whitefish as other scholarship contests progress.
The Montana School of Mines Glee club will present its annual concert Monday evening in Con vocation hall directed by Prof. Arthur Drynan. Mrs. James Cummins will be guest artist with Nan Elizabeth Tretheway assisting. The college orchestra will also perform as part of the program.

White Cloud Michigan April 28 three members of the Cassidy family were sentenced by Circuit Judge Earl C Pugsley to life imprisonment at hard labor or in solitary confinement for plotting the death of Helen Cassidy 20 to gain custody of her four children Charles Cassidy 23 his mother Matilda Cassidy 46 and his brother Elton Cassidy 24 pleaded guilty to first degree murder and were given life terms mandatory.
Chief W. H. Breen announced a spring safety drive to reduce city traffic accidents as warm weather brings more motorists. Officers will arrest and prosecute violators who fail to cooperate and follow traffic rules while efforts to extend improved conditions continue. A city map is posted at police headquarters for reference.
