Five Are Killed in Naval Blast at Newport Base
Five civilian workers were killed Tuesday in an explosion at the under water ordnance station on the Newport Naval Base. About 20 people were in a cement dynamo meter testing building when the blast occurred, with five others hospitalized and several receiving first aid. A Navy board led by Capt. William B. Billings Woman Dies in Head-On Auto Crash
Irene C. Badilla, 47, died Tuesday from injuries after a head-on collision on Laurel highway Sunday night. Coroner Mel Boice said an inquest will be held. Badilla's auto hit a car driven by Myron Durtsche, 39, of Lovell Wyoming. four others were injured but not critically. She was widow of William Badilla, who with their 4-year-old son Bernard died June 12, 1952, when a tractor overturned on their ranch southwest of Billings.

Spokane county farm near Colbert north of Spokane reports a 14 year old boy named Warren Pat McKernan scratched and knocked down by a big eagle that attacked the family dog.
