Warden Preston E. Thomas testifies before a governor’s investigation committee blaming Ohio lawmakers for the H and G cell block fire trap that killed 320 inmates. He says convicts who died were housed in a dangerous section that state officials refused to remove for 12 years.
Mrs Amos Hague of 88144 Montgomery Ave Butte was found exhausted and nearly prostrated yesterday morning about 10 beside the Yellow Stone trail one mile west of Logan after an all night search by her husband two sons her brother and Gallatin county sheriff and staff.
The leading tuberculosis expert in America will address the Pacific Northwest Medical and Surgical association in Butte July 1 2 and 3. Dr Allen Krause president and director of the Desert Sanitorium and Institute of Research of Tucson Ariz will speak on all three days with one lecture to be continued on page 2 column 6.

William J. Boast 57 the first Montanan to obtain citizenship papers after statehood died at St James hospital from a head wound. A .38 revolver lay near him in the C O D hotel room and relatives say the gun was being cleaned when it discharged. He had been chatting with the landlady moments before and appeared in good spirits. The case is treated as accidental.
Montana voters are asked to sign a petition for a new Workmen's Compensation law. Critics call it a dangerous measure that would extend liability to nearly all workers and employers, burden public treasuries, and upend the existing compensation code. The piece argues the proposal lacks public debate and would turn every employer into a potential payer. This opposition stresses broader scope, state and local government costs, and overreach beyond mere workplace hazards.

Northwest railroad officials announced a further running time cut on Chicago to Pacific coast trains. Effective June 1 the Empire route will reach a total time of 60 hours and 45 minutes, reflecting the ongoing speed war and marking the fourth reduction from the previous year.
Senator Burton K. Wheeler of Montana declared Roosevelt the winning standard bearer of a militant progressive Democratic party in 1932 at the Jefferson Day dinner. He said control of electric power is the overriding issue shaping the nation’s future and urged following New York Democrats led by Fred E. Smith and Roosevelt. More than 2,000 attendees heard the remarks and other speakers including Nellie Taylor Ross and Justice John L. Walsh.
Miss Bonnie Brown aged 25 a licensed air pilot died from injuries after a glider she piloted crashed from about 20 feet. She was flown to a hospital but died this evening. The accident occurred late today during a flight near Los Angeles.
Great Falls high school was named winner of the Class A sweepstakes at the state music meet in Great Falls, with Anaconda second and Bozeman third. The contest ran Thursday to last night, with Butte musicians taking seven firsts and five thirds. Awards listed by the Associated Press include piano won by Richard Hoppin of Great Falls and cornet solo won by Lucille Kurts of Opheim.
Silver Bow county reduced its indebtedness by about 3 700 dollars weekly for five years or more, paying off nearly 970 000 in bonded debt and registered warrants since 1925. The board says the county’s financial condition is the soundest in history, and if bond terms allowed, debt could be cleared in five years. Continued on page 2 column 5.

Eleven year old Bob Milodragovich of Butte defeated Anaconda rival in a tense state marble championship at Hebgen Park. Scouts from Anaconda, Butte and Helena watched as 50 spectators and several dogs gathered under cloudy skies. Milodragovich claimed the title amid rough play and a last minute challenge from the dark horse southpaw.

In Starke Florida an historic feud between two prominent families led to four men imprisoned in Jacksonville and Gainesville and a hospitalized suspect after gunfire on the Ritch family of Raiford. National guardsmen stood ready as Governor Carlton was urged to mobilize troops amid threats and arson warnings targeting State Senator F. E. Andrews.
More than 300 members gathered at the New Finlen hotel to observe the 112th anniversary of the order. A 6:30 banquet was followed by vocal and instrumental selections and a grand ball. D. J. Charles acted as master of ceremonies and J. E. Watson spoke on Odd Fellowship and Its Accomplishments. Participants included Rev. C. G. Cole E P Nygren Mrs. Blanche Trudgen Miss Margaret Williams and Mrs. Mike Kilvanic.
The first intercollegiate radio debate in Butte will air on KGIR at 9 pm pitting Montana School of Mines speakers against Mount St. Charles College Helena. The topic asks whether nations should adopt a plan of complete disarmament except for internal policing forces. Mines will be represented by Thomas F. McBride and Joseph Newton, noted Mines debater.
