Helena Youth Wounded During Quick Draw Attempt
A 17 year old in Helena was hospitalized with a leg wound after a misfired quick draw attempt. Police said Jay Edward was practicing draw and shoot and accidentally shot himself. The doctor noted such amateur quick draw incidents can result in injuries.

Daubert declines to testify in wife's first degree assault trial
Donald E. Daubert, shot last March 15, refused to answer questions at the opening of a first degree assault trial against his wife Joan Maureen Englund. Englund became Daubert's wife in a justice court ceremony April 8 after the complaint was filed. Cooper, ranch owner H. R. Cooper's son Chan, said the couple had lived on the ranch since last September. Daubert and Chan were working together when the shooting occurred. Daubert cited constitutional grounds fearing incrimination or degradation. The prosecutor pressed questions for about ten minutes without a reply.

Butte Men Held in Theft of Anaconda Pickup
Dave Carroll age 21 and Ken Lucero age 19, both from Butte, were jailed in Granite County on bonds of 1500 and 5000 dollars respectively after being arrested near Drummond following the theft of a pickup owned by A. J. Hamlin of Anaconda. Hamlin said his wallet containing 120 dollars was stolen. He flagged a Greyhound bus after the youths drove away with the truck. Roadblocks were set as authorities pursued.

County auditor seeks election in two year term
Margaret Babe Darragh the county auditor by appointment since April 5 filed Monday for Democratic nomination to a two year term. She succeeds Margaret Leary Sullivan who died April 2. The appointment came by unanimous vote of the county board. Darragh lives at 103 Missouri. She is a lifelong resident and has served five years as deputy county auditor.
