Montana residents split on lands love and growing woes
The 2024 Montana Statewide Survey by the Crown of the Continent and Greater Yellowstone Initiative finds broad support for conservation and public lands yet a widespread sense that quality of life is deteriorating. Polls collected from 500 Montana voters March 23–28 show unity across political divides on natural beauty and access to federal lands despite rapid population growth.

Butte woman charged with assaulting three children
The case names Shelly Ann Miller as the alleged abuser who struck the children with a wooden paddle and hit a girl in the face while wearing rings. Police found the trio, ages 11 8 and 7, in an alley at 445 a.m. in freezing weather. Prosecutors say the parents lied about their status, claiming the children were orphans or staying in hotels. Miller faces eight felony counts of assault on a minor with up to five years per count and fines up to 50000. Initial charges against the parents are pending transfer to District Court.
