IRS Finds Baker Signed Accountant's Name on 1961 Returns
The IRS reported that Bobby Baker signed the name of accountant Milton L. Hauft as preparer on 1961 individual and Carousel Motel partnership returns filed in Ocean City Maryland. An investigation showed no substitution of original returns, but Baker signed Hauft’s name as the preparer. Further consideration by the service followed.

Helena UPI Two Republican candidates entered the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction after Harriet Miller left the GOP to run as a Democrat. C. R. Anderson, Helena Schools superintendent since 1955, and L. Thomas Eaton, Huntley Project High School principal, vie to avoid a default party nomination. Eaton, 48, is nephew of former lieutenant governor Ernest T. Eaton, who served 1941 to 1949. Anderson, 62, filed shortly after Eaton, saying both major parties should have a candidate.

Union Officials Crack Down On Threatened Rail Strike
In Washington union leaders warned local officials to avoid wildcat walkouts over the no strike rail settlement with President Johnson. Trainmen's Brotherhood head Charles Lunn assured that a New York Central strike would not occur and warned dismissal for incipient action.
