A Butte resident recounts a mob attack on April 12 that wrecked the Hicks home with rocks and garbage. Police delayed arrival, and one officer apologized that he could not intervene before offering to help file a warrant. The Hicks family fled temporarily before returning last Sunday.
Citizens committee reports evidence from residents linking April 13 14 riot vandalism to Communist workers plans. No adult arrests announced while two teenage boys face a delinquency petition over looting at a home on Locust Street.
Timber sales in the Deer Lodge National forest show heavy activity in 1946 with two more sales in May bringing total to about 25 million board feet in the first five months. Projections compare sharply to 1945's 1.5 million feet, with large blocks sold near Philipsburg and Maxville and bids planned for Boulder river and Echo lake blocks including thousands of poles.
Lewistown police officer Ben Anderson reports a beaver detoured onto Main Street by Spring creek and received an escort through town. The sight prompted the officer to remark he has seen all varieties of jaywalking.

Chicago April 23 Flour grinding for domestic use has halted temporarily in some mills under a new government order cutting domestic flour production by one quarter. Bakers report they hold three to four weeks of flour reserves and the impact will be felt gradually as shortages unfold. Industry sources say the cut may cause a spotty bread shortage at first with reserves guiding the pace of production.
Charles O. Nick Lewis a Martinz ranch employee died after poles holding a haystack collapsed on him two miles west of Elliston. He lived in the Avon Elliston district for nine years and was a World War I veteran. Survived by his Wisconsin mother. body at Ross mortuary, Deer Lodge.
The Clothing Manufacturers Association warned they will stop shipping men's suits on May 1 unless OPA price regulations are drastically changed. The message came after a meeting with Veterans' Retraining and Reemployment officials seeking more suits for veterans. An OPA spokesman called the threat idle, while a CPA official called it serious.

The second trial of Howard H. Kauf, former Seabee, charged with murdering his ex wife Hazel, moved quickly as 17 witnesses were questioned in district court. Testimony recounted the February 8 shooting at a Butte nightclub, with four witnesses present, and Officer Earl J. Holman testified as Kauf was taken into custody. The case followed a previous mistrial when jurors could not reach a verdict, drawing little public interest.
