Nixon arrived in Helena on a sunny 51 degree Monday to meet with western states cochairman Gov. Tim Babcock. The former VP, touring from Cheyenne, spoke little of politics, praising the weather while greeting old friends including J. Hugo Aronson. An unofficial crowd of 300 to 500 gathered at the airport as Nixon, aides, and reporters were welcomed by Babcock, Aronson, and GOP officials.
