Helena Bank Robbery Leaves $37600 Stolen From Vault
A well dressed man in his late 20s robbed the First National Bank and Trust Co in Helena using a pistol to force access to the basement vault. He fled with $37,600 after taking a handwritten references letter and guiding bank officials to fill a case with bills. The heist occurred in about 10 minutes as staff were unaware of the weapon until after leaving the vault area. Police faced difficulty identifying suspects given vague descriptions.

Second fatality named in Garrison crash near Elliston
Howard Jackson 20, of Elliston, died in a Great Falls hospital after a one car crash seven miles east of Garrison. The accident also killed 15-year-old James Davis of Avon. Jackson had served in the Army and attended Western Montana College. Services were set for Sunday in Deer Lodge.

Gardiner woman feared drowned in Yellowstone River
Mrs. Ann Bragg a 47 year old Gardiner resident is missing and presumed drowned in the Yellowstone River about 50 miles south of Livingston. Sheriff's deputies and the 5-Watters Rescue Unit began search and river dragging Friday after she went fishing near Corwin Springs and was later found missing. Her husband Tom Bragg had taken her to the site Thursday afternoon and found only a seat cushion and fishing tackle the next day.

Butte Man Found Fit to Stand Trial in LBJ Threat Case
William Earl Clark 30 was ruled mentally able to stand trial in U.S. District Court in Billings for threatening President Johnson. The hearing follows a federal indictment alleging Clark mailed a letter promising to kill the President within 30 days. Bail remains at $10,000. Clark has been jailed in Yellowstone County.
