Apollo 16 astronauts Duke and Young drove the electric rover over the Descartes Highlands during a seven hour surface walk. They collected rocks and soil, deployed a nuclear powered science station, and reported crystal white rocks likely from early lunar volcanism or meteoroid impacts.

Big Sky land exchanges approved to aid Montana ski resort
The U S Forest Service and Burlington Northern cleared two land swaps, BN 2 and BN 3, letting Big Sky develop its ski area. The deals move 21 749 acres to the Forest Service in exchange for 10 243 acres to BN, with lands near Yellowstone National Park. BN is a major Big Sky investor and an earlier BN 1 exchange was completed.

Herron Found Guilty of Man Slaughter in Hoar Slaying
Louie Herron age 55 was found guilty by a district court jury of manslaughter in the May 10 1970 shooting death of James Hoar 50 at Mick and Joe's Bar in Park. The jury deliberated five hours and 15 minutes before foreman Ellen Weldon announced the verdict Friday night.
