Seventeen Men From Silver Bow Enter Second April Draft
Seventeen Silver Bow county youths left for Fort Missoula for final medical checks and induction into the U S Army for one year as the county’s second April draft. The total drafted this month reaches 321 with six more to depart Thursday and a May 5 to 7 call planned. Draft board No 1 sent seven men and boards No 1 and No 2 sent five each. The group assembled at the Lewisohn building at 10 30 am then moved to the depot for the 12 30 pm departure.

In Helena on April 21 a Philadelphian applying for a marriage license offered Deputy County Clerk Rae Q. Smith a five dollar bill. Smith gave three silver coins as change, the man refused and demanded paper money. Smith quipped that out there a man isn’t dressed until he has five dollars in silver in his pocket. The man took his papers and left with the coins.
