Sudden ground tremor at Russo Hotel 228 S Main in Butte sent residents fleeing Sunday afternoon. Windows shattered, front bricks damaged, iron beam snapped, and the bar area suffered thousands in losses while tenants returned shortly after the quake.

Cyril William Davies 40 of Elliston died from injuries after his car left U S 12 near Elliston and rolled three times. His wife Margie 36 was seriously injured when thrown from the vehicle, found 30 feet away. Davies, a former Butte miner, died in Helena hospital. his death raises Montana traffic fatalities to 69 for the year.

A six person flight from Camas, Washington ends in a noon crash killing pilot Lee Roggenkamp, 28, his four children Robin 4 Rhonda 8 Randall 7 Ryan 2, and neighbor girl Jean Marie Vandenberghe 8. The Stinson four place plane vanished behind a hill after circling the Roggenkamp home.
