Eamon De Valera plans to introduce a government bill on April 19 to abolish the oath to the king as a step toward a free Ireland. First reading is expected to face little opposition, with attention high across the Dail. Demand for gallery tickets was so strong officials rationed access.
London April 19. Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald suffered a setback in his eye recovery and was briefly nearly blind last night after interrupting a cabinet meeting. An official bulletin said his eye condition had not been fully maintained though he plans a Geneva trip with physician Sir Thomas Horder.
Ogden Mills proposes a program to raise 1.241 billion for the 1933 budget, with 1.037 billion from new taxes and the rest from savings. The plan mirrors Mellons’ approach, including a 42 percent top surtax, removing corporate exemption, and new excises on home brew. It notes corporate stock ownership concentrates outside managers and warns of broader implications for railroad finances and potential Reconstruction Finance Corp loans.
In Washington on April 19 Senator Borah denounced debt cancellation as Europe must settle its own problems before seeking relief from the United States. He attacked Alfred E. Madison lake in Harris Inn was rapidly drained to shallow depths as flood gates released millions of gallons. The goal is to recover the bodies of three Helena men drowned during a fishing trip on Saturday. The lake level fell about 18 inches as spillways roared throughout the day.
London April 19 George Bernard Shaw blasted rumors of a U S visit this summer to cover political conventions. He dismissively called such proposals lunatic and insisted No, in the very largest type, is his final answer.
Senator King of Utah was ordered to his home with a bad case of grippe. Congressional physician Dr. George W. Calver said the Utah senator has a very bad case and will be confined to bed at least for the remainder of the week.
A gathering of about 60 physicians from nearby towns and a large Butte delegation observed the Murray hospital clinic silver jubilee. Dr. Peter Potter chaired and recounted the clinic's history since its 1907 organization, with a technical night of patient-case demonstrations.
Firefighters respond to a call at 628 East Park Street and discover the home of veteran James Roe is on fire. The evening air turns tense as Roe fears for his family while fire crews work to control the blaze.
Secretary of State Stimson becomes the first high ranking US official to participate in a League of Nations disarmament conference session in Geneva. His arrival two hours after the start sparked excitement among delegates and spectators as conference halls and corridors filled with onlookers.
Helena April 19 Governor Erickson urged Montanans to join a volunteer forest warden force likening them to Vigilantes. State Forester Parker cited 65 percent of fires in timberlands were man caused 11 568 fires from 1908 to 1930. In Montana and Idaho Governor Ross pledged aid with over 3000 volunteers already enlisted from civic business and industry.
The emergency relief fund campaign committee begins soliciting renewal pledges to sustain relief work in Butte. At yesterday’s Chamber of Commerce meeting members received 10 pledge cards each for about 263 individuals who have paid in full in the last five months. Col D G Stivers and Willard Thompson reported on relief administration from January to now.
Montana School of Mines seniors begin a three day series of 40 minute oral exams chaired by the president and department heads. Students are quizzed on engineering topics and general subjects including politics history economics and athletics. The format surfaced last year and produced strong shows of knowledge across both technical and non technical areas.
Washington April 19. Senate banking committee chairman Norbeck said the New York Stock Exchange will publish the list of 24 000 short sellers as of April 8 in due time. Members noted few recognizable names and urged investigation of actual sellers beyond the listed names.

Three veterans of political and World War I battles launch a counter attack to block the two billion dollar bonus payment. Representatives LaGuardia of New York Simmons of Nebraska and Johnson of South Dakota attack the currency expansion plan to cash the bonus certificates.
In Honolulu court Lieut. Thomas H. Massie was declared insane when he killed Kahahawai, a half caste, amid testimony by Dr. Thomas J. Orbison who said Massie was out of his mind and sought confession from Kahahawai for Massie’s wife’s alleged assault.
New York Herald Tribune prints William Allen White's diagnosis of what's the matter with the United States. He says the people are scared, angry and asleep in an enchanted spell. White drafted the piece on Em poria Gazette stationery while in New York's National Arts Club.
Bruce Scott, 722 South Montana Street, was attacked by four unmasked men near Park and Dakota streets shortly after 1 30 AM. Three men held him while the fourth searched his pockets taking 10 25 in cash.
Hopewell N J April 19 A message from the Lindbergh kidnappers arrived at Col Charles A Lindberghs home via a man and woman who flew in a big red Cessna. The air crew, identities smeared, landed at Princeton airport and met Richard A Newhouse then drove to the house. They allegedly delivered a message to Robert Thayer before leaving two hours later.
