FELENA April 1 Stewart of White Sulphur Springs, veteran Monteria Stockman, has been named to head the Lamey for Governor club. James C. Holland of Maine is secretary treasurer of the state wide organization.
Blewart announces acceptance of the chairmanship of the Lamey for Governor club, praising Arthur F. Lamey as the best qualified man for governor. He recalls long Democratic involvement in Montana politics, military service, and state service, citing Stewarts' view that Lamey understands veterans' issues from service in World War I.
Ancient redwoods found in China resemble Montana Northwest forests from 40 to 100 million years ago. Dr. R. W. Brown compares Chinese cones and seeds with fossil trees across the American Northwest, suggesting a common plant lineage before the Cascades formed. He cites climate change ending the Montana redwood lineage while California redwoods thrived.
Fossil cones and ancestral species found in North Dakota show Asia and North America were once connected. Living species also hint at this connection with the alligator in the southeastern United States related to a Chinese alligator. The Mississippi sturgeon has cousins in China and Siberia, while a spoonbill catfish of the U.S. Midwest has living relatives in the Yangtze region.
Mrs. Mattie Mills told a Manhattan court she burned a false alarm to win a ham at a church bazaar. She said after hoping for one prize she won two bottles of wine and then triggered the alarm to claim her turn.
Members of the Joint Patriotic committee of Silver Bow county convened Sunday afternoon at Patriotic Hall in the courthouse to plan the Memorial day observance in Butte. Mack Wall chaired in W R Van Orden’s absence, outlining the annual meeting and listing groups such as Gold Star Mothers, Ladies of the GAR, Navy Mothers, DAR, Marine Corps League, VFW and auxiliaries, and American Legion units. In Moscow, Robert Magidoff, denied as a spy, plans to depart Sunday with Mrs. Maginoff for Berlin after Soviet authorities deemed his continued residence undesirable.
