In Montana the copper industry posted a tentative pattern of hiring after a strike as 26 international unions representing local workers signed a new contract Tuesday. The agreement covers basic Montana employees including steel workers craftsmen teamsters and operating engineers with formal contracts to be mailed to nonpresent locals for signing.
The Montana Unemployment Compensation Commission said provisional eligibility for jobless aid begins March 30 for copper workers not yet recalled. Chairman Edgar H. Reeder noted the strike ending and outlined conditions, including being able and ready to work, seeking work, and meeting eligibility under state law. About 4,000 workers across Butte Anaconda Great Falls and Helena are recalled.
