Gunfire on Miami riverfront as rum runners flee
In Miami on April 14 AP reports coast guard picket boat opened fire on a rum runner during a river chase. Two shore structures and a houseboat were struck while more than 200 shots, many tracer, were fired. The contraband craft was seized and turned to customs. Commander R L Jack said a government vessel had pursued the rum runner and a formal investigation will follow at Fort Lauderdale. A bullet narrowly missed Mrs. Latham in her bed.
