Britain and the Netherlands agree on a gradual withdrawal of British troops from Indonesia and their replacement by Dutch forces. The communique cites aims to liquidate the war with Japan and pull British forces from the Netherlands East Indies after talks among Attlee Bevin Schermerhorn Van Royen and Van Mook.

In Jordan Indiana a quarrel over fried potatoes at Kenneys cafe ended with Frank Foster shooting Claude Watson. A coroner's jury found Foster responsible for Watsons death from a bullet wound to the stomach. Both men were longtime residents. Foster was a government trapper and Watson led a state highway sub station. Watson left a wife and three children. Foster a wife and two children.
The Marine Corps announced a two point drop in the discharge score from 38 to 36 next Monday. The move would release about 8 800 enlisted men who would not have qualified until May 1 when the score drops from 38 to 33. The May 1 reduction will proceed regardless of Friday�s change.
Louis Meyer a veteran California newspaper man aged 68 died Friday after a short illness in Oakdale hospital. He was co publisher of the Oakdale Reader the Manteca Bulletin and the Pittsburgh Post Dispatch and had 25 years as a publisher in the state.
Air Line Pilots Association threatened a one day strike in the week of April 21 by 1,300 Transcontinental and Western Air Co. pilots over wages rising from 13 200 to 16 000 a year. David L Behnke said the walkout would ground all TWA planes and affect domestic and international routes. Joint talks unlikely while a 12 day United Mine Workers strike continues.
