Across the nation chatter hints at the new administration shaping social responsibility beyond Harding era normalcy. Lipppmann notes broad support for government action in agriculture and economic controls, with debate over currency hoarding and the bank system, warning against universal cash hoarding and fiat money.
Major league baseball begins tomorrow with a return to old fighting spirit and public ceremonies. Eight openers across American and National leagues expected to draw about 185000 spectators despite forecasts of showers. Viscount Kikujiro Ishii, former ambassador to Washington and former foreign minister, accepted a mission to discuss economic issues with the new U S administration in Washington.
Washington reports administration leaders weigh eliminating examinations to speed up postmaster appointments. About 15,032 first to third class postmasters face tests, with 10,486 in the third class. Postmaster General Farley arranges the slate for some 47,000 appointments. Roosevelt's consent uncertain.
Governor Cooney announced that the state board of examiners will offer refunding bonds on May 1. Investors can buy in units of 500 and 1,000 dollars and up through state officials. About 2 million dollars may be taken for the state school fund to retire 4.5 million in warrants bearing 4 percent interest with first retirement Jan 1, 1944. Payments may be in warrants or cash. no commission is charged.
Eight family members died in a Harris area fire four miles northeast of town. The mother Mrs Albin Johnson and seven children were found among the ruins. the father was missing. Deputy Coroner A O Stark said no more bodies remained and an inquest is planned tomorrow. County officials may oversee the probe as detectives seek the fire’s cause. A neighbor reached the scene as the structure collapsed.
Reports in Washington suggest Eugene Meyer, governor of the Federal Reserve Board, resigned and would stay on until a successor is named. White House aides denied the claim, and Meyer has not spoken publicly. If true, Angus McLean of North Carolina was named as a possible successor.
In Des Moines on April 11 the Iowa house passed a measure to permit the manufacture and sale of 32 percent malt beverages amid noisy galleries and calls for order as state prohibition waned after 18 years.
An exchange telegraph from Harbin reports bandits derailed a Chinese Eastern railway train traveling from Harbin Manchukuo to Vladivostok Siberia. Several passengers were killed many injured and several kidnapped in the attack.
Protestant churches will unite at Mountain View Methodist from noon to 3 pm for seven programs based on the Savior’s seven last words with seven ministers. Catholic rites include stations of the cross and crucifixion sermons. Most city businesses close from noon to 3 pm to allow attendance.

Helena April 11 Receipts from beer licenses issued by the state board of equalization nearly reach the hundred thousand mark with 27 more permits granted. After 15 percent is deducted for admin costs the funds are split between the state general fund and the counties in proportion to licenses in each county.
Helena April 11. Governor Cooney proclaims May 9 as Arbor Day in Montana. The action designates the date for tree planting and related observances statewide.
Paul B. King 38, son of Utah Senator William H. King, died after plunging from a seventh floor window of the Blackstone hotel in Washington. He registered about a week ago and was found in an alley behind the hotel. He leaves a widow and a 17 year old daughter. It is unclear whether it was a fall or a jump.
In Inez Kentucky April 11 jurors received the case of John Mills and six other members of a backwoods religious cult charged with slaying Lucinda Mills as a sacrifice on an altar. The group faces a murder trial after the dramatic accusation in a rural setting.
A masked man leaped the counter at Union Grill 115 East Park Street and took $8 from the till before fleeing in a snowstorm. Proprietor Frank Veronikas hid behind the counter as the robber demanded a meal and produced a revolver. Three patrons only realized the holdup when coins were being taken.
George Bernard Shaw condemned Americans as dull and ignorant in a Metropolitan Opera House speech to about 5,000 guests. He charged the 100 percent American with empty talk but said the United States could save civilization and warned about Hollywood influence.
Chicago April 11 A surge in wheat prices to 62 1/4 cents a bushel followed a government report predicting a smaller crop, sparking a rally in the board of trade. The gain added about 3.5 million dollars in value as September delivery climbed to 62 1/4 cents, marking a weekly rise of 6 cents and 10 cents since March 28.

Warden A G Walker of the Arizona state prison announced he will ask the county attorney to file for a sanity hearing for Winnie Ruth Judd, who is under death sentence for the murder of Agnes Anne LeRoi. If the court approves, a 12 person jury will be impaneled to hear the inquiry.
Washington April 11. Federal legislation for a 30 hour week in industry gained admin support as Secretary Perkins backed the Senate bill after a conference with Secretary Roper and Senator Black. Perkins said modifications to make the measure more workable would be recommended and she will confer with the House Labor Committee to press administration viewpoint. The bill, passed by the Senate last week, awaits action amid Trammell motion reconsideration.
Secretary Cordell Hull described a forthcoming tariff plan meant to strengthen but not destroy U S industries. He said talks with world leaders would occur separately even if several nations meet in Washington. He noted former French premier Herriott's adjusted sailing date to join the discussions with Roosevelt and MacDonald.
A tri motored plane built for President Roosevelt completed final tests at Wright Field Dayton Ohio. The craft will carry seven people three crew two pilots and a radio operator and includes radio gear enabling communication with any location during flight.
The fourth annual Sunshine camp for under nourished children in Butte, sponsored by the Butte Lions club, will run from July 1 for six weeks. Max Apostle, chairman, reports accommodations for 42 children and expects a new group this year. Children from last year are still in care, with monthly health examinations continuing through the year. John Claxton led ritualistic ceremonies at the club's session.
