Plane hijacker still free after massive search
PROVO Utah AP a massive search for a young hijacker who parachuted from a low flying jet with 500000 ransom was abandoned as police chief said a suspect had been identified but not caught FBI would not confirm the report. Agents said 200 searchers found no trace. In Los Angeles the United Airlines 727 pilot questioned the hijacker likely being a pilot. He reportedly had knowledge of parachutes and airplanes.

City hall heat fails as boiler expires in Butte
Police and city workers faced a freeze out after the city hall boiler expired around 7 30 pm Saturday. Firemen vented pressure, the main gas valve was shut, and inspector Mulcahy warned the boiler could not be relit. Officers warned to wear warm clothing as snow showers and a low of 25 degrees loom. Chief Russell sought electric heaters for relief.
