School Trustees Re-elected in Anaconda Light Vote
H J Hetherington and Walter Dooley were re elected to the Anaconda school board as voter turnout barely reached 781 from about 6000 registered. Hetherington led with 473 votes, Dooley had 390, defeating Sid McCallum 226 and Clive Farlin 178. Five holdovers remain on the board.

Admiral Nimitz announced that Third Amphibious Corps moved 3000 yards north along both Okinawa coasts with light resistance. In the south the 24th Corps met stiff opposition from entrenched Japanese near Naha, facing trenches blockhouses and pillboxes as they pressed forward through rugged terrain. B 29s and fighters down 173 planes in Pacific action
The War department reports B 29s bombed targets on the Kanoya area in southern Japan. In Guam American Superfortresses and Mustang fighters destroyed or damaged 173 Japanese planes in Tokyo Nagoya strikes. Over 400 B 29s faced intense interceptor opposition as 64 B 29 gunners were credited with kills and Mustang pilots downed 21 fighters.
