Admiral Nimitz reports a three day clash last week left 46 Japanese ships sunk or damaged and 160 planes destroyed with 54 more damaged. Twenty eight ships were sunk and eight damaged or beached. American surface ships remained unharmed. The attack on Palau Yap Woleai Ulithi occurred March 29 to 31, aided by carrier air power and battleships.
