Major Fire Destroys Anaconda Business District

A major winter blaze of undetermined origin destroyed a quarter block of Anaconda's main business district early Thursday, causing about a million dollars in damage. The Goose Block and Rosenberg's Furniture Store were utterly flattened, with the Reno Bar and Supper Club and VFW Hall severely damaged, while surrounding buildings suffered smoke and water damage. Firefighters responded after a 5:15 AM alarm as flames spread from the Reno Bar to adjacent two story structures along Main Street toward Commercial.

Viet Cong says goal is coalition government in Saigon

Viet Cong chief delegate Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh told a Paris news conference that the aim of the offensive in South Vietnam is to liberate all of South Vietnam and install a government of national concord seated in Saigon. She urged U S talks resume, criticized American sabo tage of peace efforts, and noted North Vietnamese and Viet Cong gains in the northern provinces. The United States and Saigon rejected resuming negotiations, citing insufficient seriousness from the Communists. Red China reiterated support for North Vietnam and said the Vietnamization program suffered a major setback.

Butte School Board to Name New Superintendent Monday

Trustees narrow field to 12 candidates with two from Butte and ten from outside. A public session at 7 p.m. will announce the selection, followed by an 8 p.m. reorganizational meeting seating new trustees Jack Truzzolino Lee Wulf and Betty Thomter. The board also approved levies and the McKinley site plans while debating nepotism concerns linked to trustee-elect Truzzolino's relative.

The FDA says exposure to reproductive organs fell by one third since 1964 while diagnostic X-rays rose ten percent to about 76 million exams in 1970. Beams were restricted to the examined part in two thirds of cases.

Man Dies in Silver Bow County Jail

Edwin Bruce Craig a 34 year old federal detainee died at 4 a.m. Thursday in the Silver Bow County jail. Coroner said autopsy found death from excess fluid on the lungs. He had turned himself in for treatment under NARA III in Missoula and was en route to a federal narcotic treatment center in Arizona.
