Easter bonnets rise from McKinley pupils in parade
Second graders in Emily Sherman’s McKinley School class made Easter bonnets with simple materials. Hilda Schadler shaped hers from a blue detergent bottle, Kyle Olsen used flowered cloth and bunny ears, and Helen Grych chose foam rubber with velvet eggs. Special school levies totaling 36 mills were defeated in the Saturday election while Independent School Party candidates swept all three trustee posts. Final counts show 326 votes against the 8 mill high school levy, 201 against the 28 mill elementary levy, and trustees John Mack Jr leading with 6 053 votes as Conrad Fawcett and Ronald Bartsch follow.

Slain man in Butte shooting ends police chase
Larry J. Henricks 22 of Butte is killed by a city policeman after a struggle on North Montana. Officers Sullivan and Gasper pursued a car after a red light violation and arrested George Markovich. Henricks allegedly threatened the officer with a revolver. Coroner says Henricks died within a minute from three .38 bullets. Sullivan, 29, was sent home after the shooting.
