First Lady Floats Rio Grande in Big Bend Canyon River Trip
Frances Lewine describes Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson paddling a yellow rubber raft down 11 miles of the Rio Grande near the U S Mexico boundary in 90 degree heat. A press flotilla of 24 rafts followed with 70 photographers and 50 rangers while wildlife and canyon grandeur drew admiration.

Retired Butte Dentist Dr A B Collins Dies
Dr A B Collins a widely known Butte dentist died Sunday in a local hospital. Born in Central Mine Mich he grew with schooling at Butte High School earning Silver B and Golden B awards. He studied pharmacy at the University of Montana and dentistry at the University of Michigan. He earned football and baseball letters at Montana then played in the Butte Mines League. He married Erma Lessel in 1919 and practiced in Hardin a year before returning to Butte.

Nonreprisal accord ends railroad strike
The AFL-CIO Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen Union said eight railroads will not retaliate against striking workers and ordered an immediate end to the four day walkout. Union President H E Gilbert announced the withdrawal of picket lines after assurances from the railroads and Labor Department officials praised efforts to secure a deal, with fines and contempt orders noted in the negotiations.
