Early returns in the statewide election show more than a two to one preference for ratification of prohibition repeal. The notice notes continued reporting on Page 2 Col 7.
President Roosevelt called Congress to pass sweeping farm relief aimed at lifting prices and easing farmer debt. The Senate Agriculture Committee and banking subcommittee moved quickly, merging a price-support bill with a new mortgage relief measure introduced by Robinson of Arkansas. The plan seeks to bolster purchasing power, end forced liquidation, and expand credit for producers and consumers.
The Roundup club kickoff dinner at the Y M C A marks the start of a campaign to raise twenty thousand dollars for the Y program next year. Malcolm Gillis, club president, urged support as the drive totals run about one third below last year's level.
The Democratic party won 9 of 11 city seats with Mayor Achie McTaggart defeating Republican Alex Blewett by 393 votes 5591 to 5192. Bernard Holland elected city treasurer 5956 to 4547, and Police Judge Louis Buckley reelected 5632 to 4886. Aldermen Crowley Sullivan Brown also claimed seats in wards one through seven with margins shown.
A second telegram from the German tanker Phoebus confirms the Akron crash 20 miles east of Barnegat New Jersey. It says rescuers search for survivors including Lieut. Commander Wiley and three crew members with abrasions and immersion. Navy sources still cite the Akron off New England.
James J. Maher 66 a longtime Butte resident famed in mining circles in Montana and the Rocky Mountain region died yesterday in a local hospital. An Ireland native he lived in Butte 47 years and served two terms as Silver Bow County treasurer. He helped organize the Western Federation of Miners and was its secretary for many years. He also belonged to the Stromburg Mullins company.
William Lyte, on a citizens ticket, was elected mayor of Walker ville by 493 votes to 321 over Democrat Richard McGrath. The vote also gave the citizens ticket two of three aldermanic wards with wins by John H. Hill for treasurer and Grover C. Robinson for police judge. Ward results include Harold J. O Neill's 134 to 102 over W. W. Higman and Henry Watling defeating Ben Hulbert, plus Goodell and Lyle winning in the Third ward.
A steady flow of patronage to Democrats was anticipated as Roosevelt and Farley discussed awarding government posts after the landslide win. Indications suggested rapid selections for high offices in the capital within days, supplementing four names sent to the Senate for confirmation.

In Chicago on April 3 authorities and brewers vowed to end beer racketeering. State's Attorney Thomas Courtney pressed for removal of underworld influence from legal beer operations at a meeting with brewers and unions. The talks followed reports gangland hoped to control the legalized trade and recall of Al Capone’s era. A gun battle last week saw a beer runner killed in the city.
Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt stated the White House would serve beer if federal and District of Columbia rules allow it in government buildings. Conferees reached a compromise granting DC commissioners power to permit sale of beer and wine in U S buildings within the district.
The Great er University and allied agencies receive 1 251 902 dollars annually for operations in the next biennium, a 25 percent drop from 1931 32 and 25.8 percent from 1932 33. Seven thousand dollars comes from the university millage fund, the rest from fees interest and land grant income. Budgets set for each unit.
