Gas at Granite address hospitalizes Byrnes family
A Kaynes family at 1144 W Granite was overcome by gas and rushed to St James Community Hospital Monday morning about 6 10. Mr and Mrs Byrnes Martin 5 and Cindy 2 were admitted with rough condition and grayish color. Police officer Donald Plessas said a report of people passing out prompted the call. Byrnes was dismissed later Monday and the family was reported in good condition Monday night. Montana Power Co was called to check the house.

1000 Men Return to Work on Hill
About 1,000 Butte employees of Anaconda Co including miners, operating engineers, teamsters and craftsmen were rehired on Monday at the Granite Street office and at the Thornton Building. Some returned Monday with others starting Tuesday or Wednesday. Sheave wheels spun again at Mountain Con and Steward mines, trucks prepared for Berkeley Pit, and work began at Weed concentrator to replace belts and on the new treatment plant, signaling the end of a 260 day copper strike. Company spokesmen said roughly 700 are at work in the Anaconda smelter and around 450 at the Great Falls reduction works, with total staffing expected near 3,000 by week’s end in the three cities. about 7,200 were idled. No return yet at East Helena. Local 72, United Steelworkers, rejected the settlement Friday 29-9. A mediation meeting with Carl Clavadetscher is set for today at 1:30 in Helena to discuss local issues. Rehiring continues Tuesday for longer-serving workers and crafts. Wednesday for those with 15–20 years. later for less than 15 years. Most ore production will await restoration in Mountain Con and Steward. Berkeley Pit work will focus on stripping overburden first.

Saturday school vote will include five ballots
Margaret Leary, clerk of Butte School Dist No 1, announced a statewide election on Saturday April 6 with polls from 12 noon to 8 pm. Voters will cast five ballots including two school trustees for three year terms and taxpaying voters will decide two mill levies totaling 192 mills for 759,138 dollars. Taxpayers also vote on a 1,196,000 bond for a new 500 student elementary school on a 10 acre site east of Continental Drive near the hospital annex, to be traded with the county for the Cleveland School site.

Warm Springs depot closure approved by Montana rail panel
The Montana Railroad Commission authorized the closure of the Northern Pacific depot at Warm Springs after a public hearing.
