Post Office Dedication Attracts Butte Residents
Nearly 500 Butte residents joined in dedication of the new $360,000 post office at 1231 Harrison Ave. Sen. Lee Metcalf gave the dedication address with County Attorney Robert Holland as master of ceremonies. Speakers included Rep. Arnold Olson, James Symbol of Seattle and Walter Harrington. Postmaster Alfred H. Wilkinson opened the program. Metcalf recalled Butte’s 1868 post office and noted growth in postal receipts. Olson spoke of rising mail volume, now 72 billion pieces annually, about 80 percent business mail, and the post office lease construction arrangement.

Two Civilians Killed on Air Base Highway
