Tragedy in Granville County Court Official Shot On Road
County Commissioner W. P. Wilkinson of Granville County was shot to death on a public highway while driving to Oxford. M. B. Hobgood, his brother in law, allegedly fired the shotgun and then tried to kill Wilkinson’s wife and child in the party. Neighbors restrained Hobgood at the house where Wilkinson was taken. Family troubles are cited as the motive.
