Dreams of Youth and Small Town Lives
Poetic reminiscence opens with a boy wandering to Twilight Town and waking to seek his lost dream. The page then shifts to local society notes: marriages of Kavese Lampley and Lonnie Graves, A L Gaddy and Daisy Griffin wed, and Williams Gwaltney’s marriage to Karl Gwaltney. Obituaries and hospital news mingle with social events, Halloween visits, and Academy activities. The piece closes with updates on residents, visitors, and the nearing completion of a new Federal building and post office move.
New two story fire house planned for Monroe corner
The new brick fire station at Hayne and Crowell streets nears completion. Contractor is W J Gordon of Waxhaw. Built for a volunteer Monroe department with future paid service in mind, it includes lockers, bunkers, cement floors, and a sliding pole. Separate halls for colored and white firemen, sanitary stalls for horses, and modern conveniences mark the project as a city asset.
