Major Daniel McDonald of Fort Devere weighs danger and duty as his daughter plans a summer visit along the Cimarron Santa Fe trail. He recruits Sergeant Brick Hamlin of the Seventh Cavalry to intercept or guide her, while raiding parties haunt the plains and the Arkansas valley. Hamlin rides alone at dawn toward Dodge to assess the peril and ensure the girl’s safety.
