Zeb on Observing the Sabbath in Marshville

An essay in the Marshville Home questions world pleasure mood. Mr W H Phifer laments Monroe church seats empty at protracted meetings for tent shows and cites many members taking Sunday trips to Charlotte Badin and beyond for leisure. Sanford dealers reportedly sold over a thousand gallons for Sunday pleasure rides. Some foresee WWI forcing a cure for this “pleasure mad” trend while others view it as an evolution in living standards.
